Manchester Climbing Wall

Climbing is nationally accredited!

If you wish, your group can also work on NICAS, the nationally accredited scheme recognising achievement in indoor climbing and the initial level can be completed over the course of around five sessions giving your students a nationally recognised certificate to take home. Manchester Climbing Centre is the NICAS Primary Centre for Greater Manchester.

Manchester Climbing Centre is the ideal setting for fun and exciting school trips or group visits. There is a huge variety of sessions available for young people aged 5 and upwards. Climbing is a great way to develop fitness, teamwork and communication skills in an enjoyable and exhilarating environment.

Climbing is tailored to suit you!

We are here to help you tailor activities to your needs, from a one-off climbing and abseiling session, to a structured programme running over a series of weeks or months. MCC can cater for GCSE and A Level syllabuses if required, and can supplement regular indoor sessions with outdoor trips in the summer months. Sessions can be run for groups as small as five up to as many as 60 climbers.

Sessions are all fully supervised by qualified instructors, ensuring that each child receives the encouragement and attention they require. All equipment hire is included in any booking with Manchester Climbing Centre.

Climbing is well regulated!

The climbing centre holds an AALA licence and is a member of the Association of British Climbing Walls.

Staff are subject to enhanced CRB checks and hold First Aid certificates. If you prefer, you can bring your own instructors to use the facilities at the centre, provided they hold appropriate qualifications and insurance.

Platt Lane Sports complex (Part of Manchester Met Uni)

These are former facilities used by Manchester City as a training and education facility. The venue is ideal for various events from large or small competitions, hosting sports days, staff training etc. It is in a central location with ample parking and easy access for mini buses and coaches.

The following facilities are available throughout the day for active school members.

11 A-SIDE

Full size (100m x 65m) outdoor, floodlit 3G football pitch. Hire comes with the use of three dressing rooms.

Various sized goals are available, the pitch can be utilised for many sports and can be adapted for various sizes to suit session needs.

9 A-SIDE

Indoor 3G (55m x 35m) pitch, with viewing walkway along one side. Hire comes with the use of three dressing rooms.

Various sized goals are available, the pitch can be utilised for many sports and can be adapted for various sizes to suit session needs.

7 A-SIDE

Fully enclosed outdoor, floodlit (38m x 34m) 3G pitch. Hire comes with the use of a dressing room. Four ft. Boards surround the pitch with netting enclosing the pitch, including above. Goals are integrated at either end, but can be used for various sports.

5 A-SIDE

Indoor 3G (38m x 33m) pitch, with viewing area, terraced seating overlooking the pitch from the first floor. Hire comes with the use of two dressing rooms.

This pitch can be broken in half by a pull along curtain, making two 38m x 17m areas.

100-Seat Lounge

Lounge area with moveable tables and chairs. This means it can be set up to accommodate various functions.

Blinds at all windows and a pull down screen enable presentations etc. (projector or similar not supplied)

36-Seat Auditorium

Terraced seating for 36 in a custom made auditorium. Great for educational and sporting presentations.

Dome Education centre

Purpose built Classroom overlooking the 11 a-side pitch. Great natural light, good working environment. Seats up to 20

National Squash Centre and Regional Arena (previously Sport City)

Sportcity has successfully developed world-class sports and events venues that provide facilities for elite and professional athletes as well as developing a strong community programme. The arena regularly accommodates school and community events and is open for use by the public. A number of local athletics clubs also operate from the venue including Sale Harriers, Belle Vue Racers and Manchester Kestrels.

Indoor / Outdoor athletics hall

The indoor athletics hall has a 200m banked running track and a six lane 60m sprint track. Specially designed nets cater for throw events and there are also facilities for pole vault, high jump and long jump. This is an ideal area for school events providing a safe environment for students and giving them access to world class athletics facilities. There is a team of dedicated coaches on site that can introduce your students to various Olympic sports.

The National Squash Centre

The National Squash Centre is home to England Squash and Manchester Squash Club as well as being open to the public. Manchester City Council Sports Development organise sessions for children and adults to develop their squash skills.

Facilities at the centre include six standard and one glass show-court. All courts are state-of-the-art, with the ability to be configured for single or double play at the push of a button. The show-court can be moved into the athletics hall where there is room for 1,200 spectators for the major tournaments held regularly at the centre.

There is a team of dedicated coaches on site that can introduce your students to the sport in a fun and exciting environment.

The National Cycling Centre

Manchester Velodrome, The National Centre for Track Cycling, is renowned as one of the best sporting venues of its kind in the world. Home to the successful Great Britain track team, it is highly regarded amongst the world’s cycling elite and is a popular venue for local, national and international track events.

Regional Tennis Centre

The centre has six indoor and six outdoor courts. The courts are full size but a single court can be split into 2 courts with the use of the mini tennis nets accommodating up to 8 students at a time. This lets 16 students play at once on only two full courts whilst other students can be ball boys/girls or umpires keeping 26 students engaged at a time.

Debdale Outdoor Centre

Debdale Outdoor Centre is a modern purpose built outdoor centre owned and operated by Manchester City Council. We provide an exciting range of activities.

The Centre caters for a wide variety of clients of all ages and educational abilities, with the emphasis being on practical learning with appropriate theory lessons integrated into our courses. Activities available include dinghy sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and kayaking, powerboating, Hill walking, orienteering, camping, navigation, multi-activity and team-building activities.

We have courses available for adults and children, individuals and groups, at various levels from novice to advanced. All staff are fully qualified and experienced. Our courses are structured to promote your learning in a safe and enjoyable environment.
