Capturing live data on pupil performance

The National Curriculum Standards provided by Government are:

All schools must provide swimming instruction either in key stage 1 or key stage 2. In particular, pupils should be taught to:

Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25m

Use a range of strokes effectively (for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke)

Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

The programme will aim to teach basic fundamentals (physical literacy) of aquatics. Developing skills and understanding to encourage pupils to participate in multi-aquatic disciplines (Water-polo, Diving, Competitive Swimming, Synchronised Swimming, Rookie Lifeguard)

An aqua splash intra-school festival will be delivered at the end of each school term to support teamwork and confidence through fun activity.

This programme encourages year 4 attendance for a full academic year.

School Swimming Quotes

“Good news - 100% 25 m. Last girl did it yesterday. We are all delighted, please thank all the teachers, they have been brilliant”

Broad Oak Primary

“I just wanted to say how fantastic the swimming coaching has been this year. We have seen a huge improvement in the number of children attaining their 10m and especially 25m. The coaches have been really positive and delivered effective sessions and kept the teachers involved the whole way.”

Super Teaching Pilot

There have been fantastic results from the “Super Teaching Pilot” we conducted with a number of schools across the City.

The Super Teaching allows schools to bring 60 pupils all together for their swimming lesson; these sessions are delivered by 3 fully qualified swimming instructors.

The smaller ratio of pupil to instructor enables the pupils to be grouped more effectively on ability and tailored practices are suited to the needs of the particular group.

Results have shown that schools can increase their National Curriculum attainment from 54% up to 100% which is a phenomenal achievement. More Manchester schools are opting into this delivery method which is proving to be a huge success.
